The first crucial update for a lot of people, I imagine, would be that I am in fact still alive... and recording music, thankfully. I wasn't quite able to get a complete package around Obstruction of Justice: The Mixtape in terms of a cover and all that, but I've released a 14-track preliminary version on this site so people can get a fresh dose of brand new music from me. You can download it free (as always) here, where you can left-click to stream or right-click to save. I've been in the studio with Pillbox throwing down some dope material that I think everyone should hear.

I'm definitely going to have a cover made for the tape, and I'm debating whether or not I want to add to the tracklist. Only one of the songs, "Am Who I Am", will be featured on Give the Devil His Due. I decided to rule out "Play That Jam" because it doesn't fit the theme well enough. "Am Who I Am" is included last as a preview.

Because the mixtape took so long to get out, I'll have to delay the album a little bit, probably to next summer. However, there's a lot of writing that's already been put into that project, and it's shaping up to be a monster effort. The overarching theme of the album will be hard-hitting, throwback, high-energy bangers in the style of artists like M.O.P., Organized Konfusion, Beastie Boys, Onyx, and others like them. I felt it would be a breath of fresh air to my repertoire that would provide a new challenge and make up for a deficiency in hip-hop nowadays.

Please feel free to let me know on Facebook, Twitter (@MATTYMONKEES), MySpace, or by e-mail what you think of the preliminary cut of Obstruction of Justice. Constructive criticism is always welcome, as long as you're not an ass about it.

I know it's been awhile, but now that the semester's over, it's time to get back on the grind. The Obstruction of Justice mixtape is almost done, and four cuts from Give the Devil His Due are in the bag. The first single,"Play That Jam", is club ready and will receive heavy promotion over the next month. Look for Finest Hour as a whole to get a media push as Bigwood and I feel we haven't done the album justice on that front.

Speaking of which, we've put all the songs up on YouTube, so in case you need to get your fix over there, you can reach our page here. Also, I've put in an order for more Dome on the Sneak official t-shirts, so you can contact me if you still don't have the swag (all reviews, by the way, have been strongly positive). I'll be contacting Sirius XM's unsigned station over the next week as well, so hopefully we can get some legit radio airplay out of it.

Finally, be on the lookout for the public release of "Play That Jam,", the lead single from Give the Devil His Due, and two mixtape tracks by Christmas. 2010 is looking to be a huge year. Happy and healthy holidays to everyone, and thanks for your continued support.

The first update in a minute is an important one. Bigwood and I were approached by a talent scout from a major management firm and offered an arrangement with them. We're both excited about this development, but we're still in contract negotiations, so we're making sure to keep everything pretty low-key before we celebrate. We just want to thank everyone for the support that we've had from everyone who's heard the album.

Another official announcement: the name of the next album, which will be last one I cut as a solo artist for the foreseeable future, is going to be called Give the Devil His Due. It'll be a double album, with Part I done by a host of different producers and Part II entirely devoted to Bigwood's beats; candidates for names for those parts are "Devil May Care," "The Devil You Know," and "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea." The tentative release date right now is going to be set for August of 2010. The main things blocking it right now are financial issues more than anything, considering studio time is expensive and I'm still on the lookout for a paying job.

Right now, Bigwood and I are getting ready to put together a concept album, where all the tracks will weave together to form a narrative that you can follow throughout the record. It's an ambitious project, but Bigwood is very enthusiastic about it, and the vision will primarily come from him. We're gonna put our minds together on it and lay out the plans over the next two weeks. I'll write it when I get back to school, and we'll record it when I'm home from DC on the holiday break.

On a final note, August 18 is going to be the release date for "Play That Jam," the lead single from Give the Devil His Due. It's produced by Professor O of California, who comes with an absolute banger of a beat. Not to be missed.

I know it's been awhile, but now that finals and all that are officially over, the summer can now begin. I'm dedicating the next three months exclusively to promotion, so if you know anything that would be effective in order to get the word out, let me know here. Bigwood has cranked out some absolute bangers, and there will be new tracks dropping here within the next month or so. Right now, with the economy in the tank and my law school debts piling up, I'm a little short on cash, but I'm definitely finding a way to make this all work when it's all said and done.

That's the reason why the apparel and remix sections are not yet up. For the delay on those, I sincerely apologize. The Dome on the Sneak T-Shirts will be on re-order as soon as I can get the capital to put in a substantial request for the new gear.

Courtesy of the boys over at Movement Strategy, the site now features a streaming music player that you can use to bump the music without downloading it onto your computer. The option to download, however, is still there, and you can simply right-click (command-click on Apple computers) the song title to do so.

Another key announcement: Team Teamwork is the latest producer added to the stable for Delusions of Grandeur, contributing this beat and another track. You can find the other beats Team Teamwork has done at their MySpace. This includes the crazy mash-up with the Ocarina of Time beats that I highly suggest you download for free from SendSpace (the link is on his page).

Finally, the Dome on the Sneak T-Shirts are in, and those in the DC area will receive them this weekend. For everyone else, you will have to call or wait until I travel to your part of town. Yes, they look dope as fuck.

03/13/09

The Remixes and Lyrics sections will be up and ready to go by next week. On the Remixes section, you'll be able to download a cappella versions of all the songs on the website in order to remix them with your own beats. On the Lyrics section, you'll be able to ring up the words to any one of the downloadable songs and follow along. It'll also help you out with some of the metaphors and wordplay so you can get a deeper level of understanding for the tracks.

Dome on the Sneak T-Shirts, designed by Jared Kurtz, will be the first in a long line of Maxamilian-related products and will be distributed among the people who jumped on the advance list. The design is dope and really does the song justice. If you're in the DC metro area and you wanna get one, hit up the contacts section and send an e-mail.

The full line of Maxamilian products will be made available through CafePress within the next month, so be on the lookout for that as well.

The music is fully uploaded and ready to distribute. You can find it here. For now, it includes the hit single "East Coast Hop," the entire Maxamilian & Willie Bigwood collaboration Finest Hour in its entirety, and a track from the upcoming mixtape. As always, these tracks are available completely and totally free.

The a cappellas, for those of you interested in remixing, will be uploaded by the end of the week and inserted into a new section, titled "Remixes," that you'll be able to find on the upper menu.

Welcome to maxamilian.com, the new independent website of underground hip-hop artist Maxamilian. After years of dealing with the limitations of MySpace, Facebook, SoundClick, and Imeem, Max has finally launched a website where you can directly download his material for free, get updates on his latest moves, and purchase his merchandise.

A couple of important points need to be made. First, be sure to check out the downloads section where you can download Finest Hour, Maxamilian's collaboration with Willie Bigwood, for free. Second, be sure to sign up for the mailing list to be automatically notified of updates. Important information about upcoming releases, new singles, merchandise, and other developments will come through that service. Third, check out the discography section, where you can get your fill of Max's past, present, and future projects.
